As a collaborative community partner, our outreach initiatives seek to re-ignite a holistic approach to families and disadvantage residents of economically distressed in under-represented communities. To be a family base that will provide ongoing programs to kids that will help them in dealing with everyday life and how to transition through it.
In supplying counseling and other support activities, we hope to combat illiteracy by providing resources to educate displaced youth and young adults, introduce technology to lessen the digital divide, and create internships, scholarships, afterschool, mentoring and youth development as well as job training programs and services.
Vision
The Dwight D. Howard Foundation, Inc. is a faith-based organization reaching out to strengthen family relationships by providing a family base to assist youths with everyday life issues and how to transition through them.
Our mission is to bring families together by fostering positive communication and interaction. We want to be a conduit to building strong families by creating direct paths for improved relationships, interpersonal communication and healing. We will focus our efforts on at-risk youths and families; as well as those that have suffered a tragic loss. Focusing on this segment will allow us to reach out and assist in the healing process.
While education is important, we recognize that extracurricular activities are vital in rearing well-rounded individuals. We created the Howard and Howard Basketball Camps, Community Spirit Week and The Christmas Eve Holiday Program to support and empower our youth. These activities were created to bridge the gap between fathers and sons as well as mothers and daughters. Although we are based in Atlanta, these program are not limited to Georgia residents, as we have the opportunity to spread our mission throughout the country. We offer guidance by inviting motivational speakers and educators who cover a variety of topics. We not only teach the fundamentals of basketball and teamwork; we teach on the importance of education and instill life skills in the participants.
