Magic's Dwight Howard happy for pal Randolph Morris

Magic center Dwight Howard was excited that his buddy Randolph Morris had made what the New York Knicks are calling an unprecedented leap.

Morris is believed to be the first player to jump from an NCAA team to an NBA team in the same week. He declared for the 2005 draft but was not picked. He returned to school and played two more seasons as a free agent who was ineligible to be drafted.

Morris, 6-foot-11, scored 22 points on March 18 in Kentucky's 88-76 loss to Kansas in the NCAA Tournament. He practiced Sunday with the Knicks after signing a two-year, $1.6 million contract.

"Randolph's a good guy, good player," Howard said. "I'm glad he found a spot here."
